Cessna 152 — Emergency Procedures (independently worded)

Engine Failure on Takeoff Roll (Before Lift-Off) engine_failure_before_rotation

ThrottleMEMORYCLOSED IMMEDIATELY
BrakesMEMORYAPPLY FIRMLY TO STOP ON REMAINING RUNWAY
MixtureMEMORYIDLE CUT-OFF
Ignition switchMEMORYOFF
Master switchMEMORYOFF
If unable to stop on runway, steer to minimize hazard to occupants and avoid populated areas

AirspeedMEMORYBEST GLIDE — ESTABLISH IMMEDIATELY
CAUTIONDo not attempt to turn back to the runway at low altitude. Land approximately straight ahead or with minor heading changes to avoid obstacles.
Landing area — select best available field ahead and within the glideMEMORYSELECTED
ThrottleMEMORYCLOSED
MixtureMEMORYIDLE CUT-OFF when landing is assured
Ignition switchOFF when landing is assured
Master switchOFF before touchdown

AirspeedMEMORYBEST GLIDE PER POH — ESTABLISH IMMEDIATELY
Landing areaMEMORYIDENTIFY SUITABLE FIELD WITHIN GLIDING RANGE
Carburetor heatMEMORYFULL HOT — check for ice as cause of failure

Ignition switchCHECK BOTH; TRY LEFT THEN RIGHT IF ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND
ThrottleTRY PARTIAL ADVANCE TO CHECK FOR PARTIAL POWER
If engine does not restart — proceed to forced landingMAINTAIN BEST GLIDE; COMMIT TO FORCED LANDING PROCEDURE
Mayday — declare on 121.5 or current frequencyMAYDAY DECLARED; SQUAWK 7700

Cabin heat and air ventsCLOSED — prevent fire gases from entering cockpit
AirspeedINCREASE TO AID AIRFLOW SUPPRESSION OF FIRE — DO NOT EXCEED STRUCTURAL LIMITS

Evacuate aircraft — all occupantsMEMORYEXIT IMMEDIATELY AND MOVE WELL CLEAR, UPWIND
Fire extinguisher and emergency servicesUSE EXTINGUISHER IF SAFE TO APPROACH; CALL EMERGENCY SERVICES

Master switchMEMORYOFF — remove electrical power source
All electrical switchesMEMORYOFF — individually, to isolate the fault before restoring power
Cabin ventsOPEN — ventilate cockpit smoke
Fire extinguisherUSE IF FIRE IS VISIBLE AND CAN BE REACHED SAFELY WITHOUT LOSING AIRCRAFT CONTROL
Master switch — restore only if essential for continued safe flightON CAUTIOUSLY; OFF IMMEDIATELY IF SMOKE RECURS
Land as soon as practicableDIVERT TO NEAREST SUITABLE AIRPORT; DECLARE EMERGENCY IF REQUIRED

Oil pressure and temperature gaugesCONFIRM LOW OR ZERO PRESSURE; NOTE IF TEMPERATURE IS ALSO RISING
Landing areaMEMORYIDENTIFY NEAREST SUITABLE FIELD AND PLAN FOR PRECAUTIONARY OR FORCED LANDING
PowerREDUCE TO MINIMUM REQUIRED FOR CONTINUED FLIGHT — HIGH POWER WITH NO OIL PRESSURE RISKS RAPID SEIZURE
CAUTIONIf oil temperature is also rising, engine failure is imminent. Do not wait for the engine to seize — proceed directly to forced landing.
MaydayDECLARE ON 121.5 OR CURRENT FREQUENCY; SQUAWK 7700
Mixture and ignition — when landing is assuredMIXTURE IDLE CUT-OFF; IGNITION OFF

NOTEIndications: unexplained RPM loss, rough running, or engine stoppage — particularly in moist air with temperatures between approximately 20°F and 70°F (-7°C to 21°C). The Lycoming O-235 in the 152 is considered especially susceptible to carburetor icing. Treat any unexplained power loss as carb ice until proven otherwise.
Carburetor heatMEMORYAPPLY FULL HOT IMMEDIATELY AND HOLD
Throttle — if engine is rough, hold current settingDO NOT REDUCE POWER FURTHER WHILE ICE IS PRESENT
Expect a further RPM drop as ice melts and passes through — this is normal. Continue holding FULL HOT.
Recovery confirmedRPM RETURNS AND STABILIZES ABOVE PRE-ICE LEVEL; ENGINE RUNNING SMOOTHLY
If engine does not recover — prepare for forced landingESTABLISH BEST GLIDE; EXECUTE FORCED LANDING PROCEDURE
After recovery — carburetor heat managementCONTINUE CARB HEAT AS CONDITIONS WARRANT; DO NOT RETURN TO COLD IF ICING CONDITIONS PERSIST

AirspeedMEMORYBEST GLIDE PER POH — ESTABLISHED AND HELD THROUGHOUT
Field selectionMEMORYCHOOSE OPEN, LEVEL SURFACE INTO WIND WHERE POSSIBLE; AVOID OBSTACLES AND POPULATED AREAS
