Private Pilot Airplane practice question 44

(Refer to FAA-CT-8080-2H, Figure 8.) What is the effect of a temperature increase from 35 to 50°F on the density altitude if the pressure altitude remains at 3,000 feet MSL?

Show answer

Correct answer: A. 1,000-foot increase.

Density altitude rises about 120 feet for each 1 °C of warming. 35 °F is about 1.7 °C and 50 °F is about 10 °C, a rise of about 8.3 °C, so density altitude increases by about 1,000 feet, matching the chart.
